Often after a tough surgical extraction, there is insufficient bone, to place a dental implant. In these instances, a procedure called bone grafting is performed which is synonymous with word socket preservation. In this procedure, bone is added to the extracted site, and covered by a membrane, and reevaluated in 3-4 months, so to decide about the placement of implants. It is a commonly done procedure and is very successful, with proper post-op care.
